01 / SUMMARYPlain-English summary.

Heads up

Sketchy Labels is an educational tool, not a doctor or regulator. Use it to make informed choices, not to diagnose or treat anything. Don’t break the service on purpose. Don’t scrape it at scale without asking.

By using Sketchy Labels you agree to these terms. The service provides ingredient analysis for informational purposes only — it is not a substitute for professional medical, dietary, or regulatory advice. You are responsible for how you act on the information provided.

02 / ACCEPTANCEAcceptance & eligibility.

By accessing or using Sketchy Labels — whether via the web scanner, manual ingredient entry, or any other feature — you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

You must be at least 13 years old to use the service. If you are under 18, you confirm that you have permission from a parent or guardian. The service is available globally; it is your responsibility to ensure your use complies with local laws.

03 / SERVICEWhat the service is.

Sketchy Labels is an ingredient analysis tool. You submit a product label — by camera scan, barcode, or manual entry — and the service returns a plain-English breakdown of each ingredient and a score from 0 to 100 across five tiers: Clean, Good, Fair, Sketchy, and Yikes.

Scores are generated by AI cross-referenced against public regulatory and research databases including USDA, EU REACH, and NIH PubChem. The score is a heuristic — a starting point for an informed conversation, not a definitive safety verdict. It reflects the general evidence in public data and does not account for every individual circumstance, concentration level, or jurisdiction.

04 / NOT MEDICALNot medical, legal, or regulatory advice.

Important: Sketchy Labels is not a medical device and is not a substitute for professional medical, dietary, or regulatory advice. Scores should not be used to manage allergies, medical conditions, pregnancy, infant feeding, or treatment decisions without consulting a qualified professional.

The “Beneficial,” “Concerning,” and “Avoid” tier ratings reflect general safety research. They are not regulatory classifications, clinical diagnoses, or medical recommendations. Sketchy Labels is not a licensed medical practitioner, registered dietitian, pharmacist, or healthcare provider. Nothing on this platform should be interpreted as a diagnosis or treatment recommendation.

05 / USEAcceptable use.

Sketchy Labels is intended for personal, non-commercial use — to help individuals understand what is in the products they buy. You agree not to:

  • Harvest or scrape ingredient data or scores in bulk without prior written permission.
  • Attempt to bypass rate limits, bot-protection challenges, or any other usage controls.
  • Reverse-engineer or interfere with the AI analysis pipeline or any part of the infrastructure.
  • Use scan results to make medical diagnoses or replace professional health advice.
  • Misrepresent Sketchy Labels ratings as official regulatory certifications or endorsements.
  • Use the service in any way that violates applicable law or the rights of others.

06 / LIMITSRate limits.

To keep the service free and sustainable, usage limits apply per IP address. Anonymous users are limited to 10 scans every 3 minutes and a soft cap of 200 scans per 24 hours. These limits exist to prevent automated abuse and ensure fair access. Normal use will never approach either limit.

We reserve the right to restrict access from sources found to be abusing the service or circumventing usage controls.

07 / IPIntellectual property.

The Sketchy Labels name, brand, design, scoring methodology, and written content are the property of Sketchy Labels. The underlying source data (USDA, EU REACH, NIH PubChem) is public and attributed accordingly.

Label images you submit for scanning remain yours — they are processed in memory and not stored permanently. Ingredient safety ratings generated by the service may not be republished, sold, or incorporated into a competing product without permission.

You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to access and use the service for personal, non-commercial purposes.

08 / DISCLAIMERSDisclaimers.

The service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular result is accurate, complete, or fit for any specific purpose. Ingredient databases and AI models have knowledge cutoffs and may not reflect the most recent scientific research.

09 / LIABILITYLimitation of liability.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Sketchy Labels and its founders are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from your use of the service — including but not limited to harm or loss arising from reliance on ingredient ratings, purchasing decisions made based on scan results, or inaccuracies in AI-generated analysis.

Where liability cannot be excluded by law, our total liability to you will not exceed the amount you paid to use the service in the 12 months preceding the claim (which, for free users, is zero).

10 / LONGEVITYLongevity scores & health information.

10.1 Nature of the information

Longevity scores, overall product scores, and related health information provided by Sketchy Labels are generated using AI cross-referenced with publicly available scientific databases including USDA FoodData Central and NIH PubChem. All scores are provided for general informational and educational purposes only.

10.2 Not medical or nutritional advice

Longevity scores do not constitute medical advice, nutritional advice, dietary recommendations, or any form of professional health guidance. You should consult a licensed professional before making any health, dietary, or lifestyle decisions based on information provided by this service.

10.3 Accuracy & limitations

Scores are subject to the following inherent limitations:

  • AI analysis is based on training data with a knowledge cutoff date and may not reflect the most recent scientific research.
  • Database lookups may not return data for every ingredient — in those cases the AI relies on its trained knowledge.
  • Ingredient quantities are estimated by label position; actual percentage quantities are rarely disclosed by manufacturers.
  • The same ingredient may affect individuals differently depending on quantity, health conditions, allergies, and interactions with other ingredients.
  • Scores reflect general evidence from nutritional and toxicology research and are not a substitute for regulatory classifications.

10.4 Data sources

Nutritional data is sourced from USDA FoodData Central. Chemical compound data is sourced from NIH PubChem. AI analysis is performed by Anthropic’s Claude. Sketchy Labels does not control these third-party data sources and is not responsible for their accuracy or availability.

11 / CHANGESChanges to these terms.

We may update these terms as the service evolves. The latest version will always be available at this URL with the date of the last update shown. For material changes, we will notify account holders by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of Sketchy Labels after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
