Not on the EU's authorized food additive list, nor on Australia/New Zealand's approved additive list. Sometimes called the 'yoga mat chemical' — a nickname referring to its separate industrial use as a plastic foaming agent, not a regulatory finding. FDA opened a formal safety review in 2026.
